The Society says Njeri was arrested on Friday afternoon and claims officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations denied her access to legal representation.

The Law Society of Kenya has condemned the alleged unlawful arrest and continued detention of Rose Njeri, a woman linked to a website collecting public views on the Finance Bill, 2025.

The Society says Njeri was arrested on Friday afternoon and claims officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations denied her access to legal representation and have frustrated efforts to secure her release on police bail.

LSK said it received several distress calls from members of the public who witnessed the arrest, prompting the Society to assemble a team of advocates to locate and assist her.

According to the LSK, officers involved in the arrest made deliberate attempts to conceal Njeri’s location and initially blocked lawyers from offering her legal support.

After extensive efforts, the Society says it learned around 8 pm that she was being held at Pangani Police Station in Nairobi.

"Our team of advocates proceeded to Pangani Police Station and, after lengthy interventions, were finally granted access to Ms Njeri," said LSK President Faith Odhiambo.

"However, all efforts to secure her release on police bail have so far been frustrated by the officers in charge, who are yet to cede to requests by counsel to release her."

"As things stand, we are still on the matter and hope to have Rose released and back home with her family," she added.

"We ask all members of the public to remain vigilant but calm, and we will provide timely and detailed updates as soon as we make positive progress towards securing her release," the Society said.
